We hadn't even parked the car before we saw this crowd of lounging elk.
A park ranger told us that they are actually kind of pesky. He said that they aren't allowed to shoo them away because they have a right to hang out in a national park, but that he sometimes has to spend hours guarding them. He joked that he was a people herder not an elk herder, just before he had to run over a deal with a lady who was about to go strike a pose next to one.
